The best time to visit Yunnan is from March to May (spring) and September to November (autumn). Spring offers blooming flowers and pleasant temperatures, while autumn provides clear skies perfect for photography. Yunnan enjoys a mild climate year-round due to its elevation, making it a great destination in any season. Summer (June–August) brings the rainy season but also lush green landscapes.

Yunnan is easily accessible by air, with Kunming Changshui International Airport serving as the main gateway. Direct flights connect Kunming to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, and many international cities. You can also fly directly to Lijiang Sanyi Airport. High-speed trains connect Kunming to other major Chinese cities, and the Kunming-Dali-Lijiang railway makes intercity travel within Yunnan convenient.

Altitude varies significantly across Yunnan. Kunming sits at about 1,900m (6,200ft), Lijiang at 2,400m (7,900ft), and Shangri-La at 3,300m (10,800ft). Mild altitude sickness symptoms like headache or shortness of breath are possible, especially in Shangri-La. We recommend acclimatizing gradually, staying hydrated, avoiding strenuous activity on the first day, and consulting your doctor before travel.
